I have a 8 month old male cocker spaniel, I can’t get him to stop peeing in one spot in my kitchen! He will go when I let him out, but he won’t "ask" to go outside, I don’t have a dog door right now, but I am saving up to buy one, so maybe that will help. Anyone have any tips for getting a dog to "ask" to go outside??

The key to rock-solid housetraining is to start the day your pup comes home and stick with the program. Using a crate is the easiest method. (For older dogs, see housetraining adult dogs). In a nutshell, here are the basic steps:

Tie a bell to the door, where he can just reach it. Each time you take him out, jingle that bell, and tell him ‘good boy’..After a few times, take his paw and ring the bell, telling him good boy, until he catches on that he can ring the bell to be let out..
If you can find a desk bell, it works even better…and he can’t chew it…perhaps at an office supply..Then you just set it by the door and do the same..
