Help needed for a Creative Project involving dogs or interesting facts or information to research about them?

I’m in college and I’m taking a class about dogs and we have to do a final project about dogs either a creative project that involves dogs or Research something interesting about them. I don’t know much about dogs and have little experience with them so i was wondering if you dog experts could tell me something interesting I could do or look into.

What are your opinions on dog sledding?

Okay, so I’ve heard several facts about dog sledding- both pros and cons- but I’m not sure what to think so I’m asking you guys for some facts on races and things. Is it animal cruelty? Do the dogs enjoy running? Are there abusive mushers and do many dogs die? I want to know everything before I make up an opinion on it. Unfortunately right now all my facts are coming from PETA but I don’t trust them anyways so I’d like to hear from real mushers and sled dog owners!

Am I the only one who got ripped off with Nancy Richards' dog training institute?

She promises all the answers to really good issues with obedience training for cairn terriers and dogs in general but she didn’t have ANYTHING anybody that’s ever seen a dog wouldn’t already know! I am constantly being bombarded with advertisements for the very information I paid her for! She brags a 120 Day "no questions asked" refund policy but won’t refund or answer emails. Am I the only one who fell for this scam?

House training a two year old dog?

We just moved into a new house and we brought our 2 year old dog with us. At the old house the dog had a doggy door and went outside. In this new house we installed the doggy door, but he doesn’t go outside he pee’s inside. We need a carpet cleaner that will get of old stains (Previous owner had dogs too) and get rid of the odor of the new ones. My second question is, is there any tips in how to re-train my two year old toy poodle.

What are good, different female dog names?

What are the best puppy training books/methods?

I am getting a 10 week old female american eskimo dog. I need some good books on basic behavioral training, housebreaking, etc. I don’t want a method that uses treats as a means to train the dogs.

You know those dog training classes they have at pet stores?

Would you ever take a cat to a training class like that? And yes, cats can be trained the same as dogs. So knowing that your cat could be trained the same as a dog, would you ever take your cat to a class to learn obedience or tricks?
Wow, really positive answers! I agree, I think it would bring a cat and owner closer, just like training a dog would. I don’t think many people think about that, though!

Does anyone know anywhere that offers those classes for cats?

Serious dog training help! Pulling on Leash?

I have a male beagle/lab mix who is 1 year old, and I have recently took him to the vet(On Friday to be exact)…and it didn’t go so well.

He gets very excited when he sees other dogs. He started pulling really hard on the leash and barking and yelping when he couldn’t get near them. People actually thought that my dog was aggressive because of the pulling. My dog isn’t aggressive, but he does have problems with self control on the leash. I know that it’s all my fault because I haven’t been consistent with the leash training, and I’m the one to blame :( . I just get so frustrated because he pulls so hard that hes actually choking himself. I’ve recently bought the gentle leader, but I want to train him self control and leash manners, but I just don’t know what to do? It was very embarrassing going to the vet because all the other dogs there were very calm. He doesn’t bite, jump, or have any other problem…it’s just the pulling! I would like to be able to walk my dog without him turning my hand purple from all the pulling.

By the way, I was wondering if you guys can give me any ideas on some games that can help my dog let out all his energy. I walk him for an hour , but it doesn’t seem to be enough. Any ideas?
